All installation modules except LM 3 feature a status LED ring normally powered off the phantom supply voltage. When the microphone has been correctly connected and the system and phantom power switched on, the LED ring will glow at medium brightness. Thus, the sound system operator will know at a glance which microphones have been installed correctly. Note that in this configuration the LED ring only indicates the system is ready to operate (NOT that the microphone is open!). However, all installation modules except for the E versions allow the LED ring to be powered from an external supply for “open mic” indication. In this mode, the LED ring will light much more brightly to alert the talker that their mic is open. Where neither of these functions is desired, the user may deactivate the LED ring altogether. This allows you for the first time to select status indicator modes without having to buy a new microphone.
